Specialized's AWOL Comp is ready for epic days, or even epic months for that matter. This tough-as-nails adventure bike features a chromoly frame and fork for durability and exceptional ride quality. Equipped with both front and rear rack eyelets, three sets of bottle cage bosses, and full-length cable housing routing, the AWOL Comp does double duty as a fully loaded touring rig and a heavy duty commuter. Sturdy Specialized wheels with grippy 29 x 1.9-inch tires make the bike all-terrain capable, and a pair of SRAM Rival hydraulic disc brakes provide great stopping power, no matter what the conditions. A wide-range, 11-speed SRAM Rival 1 drivetrain streamlines your components and simplifies mid-tour maintenance.

Comments:
I purchased this bike as an all around bike for commuting, the road and trails as a compliment to my carbon road bike. At first it seemed fairly large and heavy in comparison to a standard road bike, as would be expected. I changed to slightly thinner tires (32mm from the stock 42mm) and lowered the handle bars and it felt much better. A very smooth ride, super solid with no rattling. A more upright position lends to a very comfortable ride and better visibility in city traffic. Great on trails and over potholes given the wider tires and strong steel frame. SRAM groupset is solid and shifts very smoothly. The Avid disc brakes are of similar high quality. I only had to change the pedals. An excellent all around bike that will add a lot of fun to your cycling life.
Comments:
Spent the extra for the Comp, and really wanted to like this bike. It had the tire clearance I wanted for gravel rides and would make a great commuter bike without the worry of pot holes. Unfortunately it had had a ticking noise when peddling from day one. The LBS has done a great job applying grease where one would expect, but the noise continues. To add to the peddling noise, I now have a front wheel popping noise that occurs when the seam in the rim rolls past the ground. Most likely a bad rim. Came here looking for a customer email link, but the customer service web page sends you in circles. Very disappointed in S.
